Girls on Tour!
A very last minute adventure to the Balearic Island of Menorca, randomly being asked to tag along with my aunt and cousin for a two week vacation to the picturesque island, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.
Till date I hadn’t really had a foreign holiday abroad with any family members before as both my parents aren’t the best when it comes to planes and flying long distances, this is why I could talk for hours about the Lake District in England because for most of my life it was my holiday destination of the year.
Flying to Menorca was a bit nerve wrecking because I didn’t know what to expect, heat wise especially! Once the doors of the plane opened up in sunny Menorca the 30-degree heat swarmed through the plane and the feeling was great as back home at the time the rain was pouring it down.
Arriving at our hotel in Cal n Forcat, quite late on in the afternoon, we checked in and planted our suitcases in the room and went for a nosey around the hotel grounds, discovering a shaded pitch and putt area and park area for the children, off course I had to have a wee swing. Furthermore, discovering a little hidden gem, a rocky staircase leading down to the Cal n Forcat beach area directly from our hotel pool and what a breath-taking view it was, clear blue waters and happy sunkissed people swimming around, loving life.
During our time in Menorca we visited the Spanish town of Ciutadella, were we walked for miles around the Spanish streets and enjoyed our ice creams at the harbour, watching the world go by. Further to having a few lazy pool days where we played a few rounds of pitch and putt then walked around the village of Cal n Forcat. We also got the coach to the city of Mahon, which is the capital of the island, where we got on a glass bottom boat for a tour around the coast of the island and got to stop off at Mahon’s famous gin distillery and see the picturesque Spanish streets.
Although the best part of my entire holiday was when we booked an all day off roading experience that took us all around the north of the island. Not knowing what to expect after being told just to pack a lot of suncream and a sunhat and to be at reception for 9am. Arriving at the destination we see two open top Land Rover Defenders waiting for us and the other tourists. Being told it would be a bumpy ride in some parts as we would be going off onto the beaten Spanish track and oh my word what an adventure it was.
Bouncing about trying to hold a DSLR and an iPhone to capture the moments with my aunt and cousin being thrown around the back of a defender, ducking and diving to avoid the branches off the trees. Our first stop was at a Spanish orchard where the apples were ripe and we got to feed a little donkey who peeped his head over the stone wall. Further on to a beautiful coast line where we sat for an hour and soaked up the rays then back up the mountain to the stunning viewpoint looking over Fornells, finishing off at our own private beach for the end of the day.
Menorca is one beautiful island, enabling a lot of exploring and guarantees lots of pictures for the scrapbook. I hope one day to be able to go back and finish seeing parts of the island.
