An Hour Among The Sunflowers!

Driving past a local park on my way home one day I noticed a bright array off colours to my left, never driving home via the Belfast Road ever, I don’t know what made me this day but any who, I couldn’t help but notice the massive displays of sunflowers and wildflowers on the banks of the park.

If you live in County Antrim, Northern Ireland and are familiar with the Lisburn area, you might know Bells Lane Park just on the outskirts of Lisburn. It’s most commonly used by dog walkers because it is very secluded and quiet and also because it has no play park. However, with this park always being very plain and minimal I was surprised to see that Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council planted the array of flowers in time for summer ending and at the time the first phase of the Northern Ireland lockdown ending!

I went home straight away from noticing the display and got my camera, back down the road to grab a few pictures but the majority of the sunflowers and wildflowers hadn’t fully bloomed therefore I snapped what I could before it rained any heavier and waited another week.

First Visit

Arriving short of week later the sunflowers were standing tall and from the reel above you can see how gorgeous the display is. It would certainly brighten up anyones day by just walking around them with all the butterflies fluttering about among the verbenas, sunflowers and wildflowers.

A few days off Northern Irish rain!

Over the course of the week I began to notice a lot of local influencers down photographing the display it became a very popular attraction during lockdown giving locals something to go and see. Can’t wait to see if Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council continue the display next year or will they up their game?
